Plenty of people out there are complaining about daylight savings. It is said that DST doesn’t save any money, it causes an increase in heart attacks and may even cause global warming.. what?
Say what you will about it, but I don’t like it. Seems like a waste of group collected effort, and since it moves with the legislation, you can’t codify it, so it is a manual process. Let’s not only get rid of it… let’s get rid of the whole darn calendar.
Think about it. We are still using the Gregorian Calendar which dates back to 1582 when a refinement to the Julian calendar cause it to be renamed. The calendar isn’t logical!
I do enjoy having Thor’s Day (Thursday), and the origins of the names of the months is interesting... well until you get to September and beyond. Ever wonder why October is the tenth month and not the eight… as in OCT!! I know, it doesn’t make sense!
There are plenty of suggestions on how to reform our calendar, but I think this one is the coolest, the terran computational calendar. The website is getting a bit of a makeover at the time, but it basically takes the amount of time it takes our fun little blue, green, brown & white marble to whip around the sun, and divide it into chunks that make sense.
The new website tries to make the written format more … hmm, not sure… scientific. I think this graphic helps explain the spacing a bit more understandable:
I mean who wouldn’t want a calendar that can be show as the graphic at the top of the page?!?!
